Visiting Hampshire!

One of my great loves is traveling! And most of all I love to travel England!
I am affraid it has become an addiction!
I need to go visit regularly.
It is hard to describe when and why this interest begun, but it might be that Jane had a finger in the game 😉 Both Austen and Eyre.

I love the English hospitality, how politely and lovingly I am treated when visiting! Their love for gardening and dogs help off course. The countryside is magnificent, the coast is wild and rough and the moors, hills and meadows of the north is captivating.

So far I have mainly visited Surrey. Some scattered visits to north, south west and west, but mainly Surrey! Some say Surrey is like Florida. Mostly tourists and rich people, but I adore it!

Next week is easter vacation and I will have loads of days off. Hmmm what to do? Yes, England off-course.
A brit at work suggested Meon valley in Hampshire. I asked why and here is his answer: Peaceful, picturesque cottages and villages, great local food, valleys, woods etc.
Well I was sold at peaceful!
And yes, Jane lived there as well!

So a quick google search for Meon Valley + B&B and there we go!
Add a rental car and some overpriced flight tickets and off we go!
But not until next week!

Hiking in the South Downs is on the plan! May also spend some time in Winchester. My camera will tag along and help me save all the precious moments!

Down with love – and mood-lifters

Sometimes I find myself in need of a smart light comedy to lift the mood. They are not easy to find. But I have the perfect one!
It is smart
Everytime you think you know the plot, it turns and twists
The clothes and makeup are really fabulous
The interior design is really fantastic and true to the sixties
The music is catchy
The dialog is flowy, smart and sometimes they rimes (in a good way)

… and the casting is perfect!

Relax, it is not a musical, but this wonderful tune is played when credits are running in the end.

If you know of any other smart light mood-lifting movies, please do comment them below!

Black on the red carpet for The Oscars

Going to the Oscars

Sometimes, while daydreaming I wear the most beautiful gowns.
Often they are from my favorite designer Elie Saab. Sheer and light flowering things is what I vision. But then I found this black strong gown with a veil/cape, and I fell in love. Still Saab, but much stronger and more confident then the usual gowns. I am trying to keep the accessories light and airy to help off the strong and hard design. After some weeks in India I most certanly would love the biggest cuff, but settled for this light one.

I know I will never have an occasion to wear clothes like this, but a girl can dream …

1 Blazer 3 different styles

1 Blazer 3 different styles

I just bought myself a new blazer, and I am playing around with some outfits and styles. I bought it for work as my old one, was ohhh soo old, literally falling to pieces. As I do not have a lot of money I picked items looking similar to the once in my closet. My items are more Zara, Mango, COS and H&M, while the once on this pic are the brands I love but are to expensive for my salary 🙂
Rag & Bone, Chloé and Jil Sanders is my favorites as they provide subtle elegant and high quality garments that easily combines with others without stealing the whole show.

Polyvore is Barbie for grown ups! 😉

Have a great sunday!

Going to India

ImageI am in a frenzy. I just learned that I am going to Mumbai in only a couple of weeks with work. I have been preparing quite a while and did take the vaccines a month ago. Just in case it would all come together in the end! And it did. 🙂

This week the hotel and plane tickets got booked. And today I went to the Indian embassy and applied for a Visa.
11 days in India! What a treat!
I do love traveling, but have never travelled out of Europe!

I do not think I have ever been this exited for traveling anywhere before. A new language, culture, new people, new smells, new food and a lot of stuff to learn.

I am not sure even how you say politely Hello in Hindi. Any tips will be much appreciated! I have been doing Yoga for some years, so I know the praying hands in front of the breast thing while saying Namaste. But I am not sure this is the proper thing to do when you meet colleagues out for a dinner date? Or meet Hotell or restaurant staff.

I work with a team in India now, via Skype, and I will learn to know two more teams on this trip, and all I know is that some of my developers sometimes say Ya on Skype. Which means yes. They are sooo good in English so Hindi or their other languages seldom pops up.

The Hotel seams to have a proper Spa… And I am thinking that I should indulge! I have actually not been to a spa since my wedding hen party, so it surely must be time to do it again. There also is a big outdoor swimming pool on the roof, and I am a keen swimmer, so I might be found there in the mornings. To leave home in minus 10 degrees Celsius for plus 30 sounds like a sweet deal right about now.

Picture og beautiful Sridevi in a colorful Sari!
This lovely picture of the actor Sridevi is from the feelgood movie English Vinglish which I adore!
A sweet gem of a movie.

And some shopping?
Some say: You have to buy a Sari. And yes they look sooo luxurious and feminine. But would I ever use it here at home? I am thinking no. But scarves big and small I would most certanly  use. Maybe something to wrap around me on the beach? Jewelry is also supposed to be available and reasonably priced.

Something else?
If you have been to Mumbai or India and have tips on shopping, language, culture or other things, please do leave a comment!

Doing the Detox thing

Chicken on salad

I look at my body in a very childish graphical way. It is a factory!

The liver and the spleen is the bins where all the waste goes. Waste such as artificial sweeteners and preservatives and other bad stuff put in diet and light food to make it look good and have the perfect texture. Medication, alcohol, coffee, candy and nicotine is also bad boys.
So especially at christmas and summer holidays there is loads of extra waste queuing to get in the bins.
This is why I am now on my 7th Detox. Every January and every August after the holidays I go through this Detox. To get the que back in order.

The whole thing should be done in a month or so, to really clean it all out, but I do not have the stamina for that. I have done 1 week the 6 times before. But since I have been a good girl and turned my eating and drinking habits around, I will only do 3 days this time.

Today is slowly ending and tomorrow is day 3. So looking forward to thursday. Because then the energy really kicks inn. My skin is already much better and my mood is lighter. Although I do have the famous headache, but it will disappear tomorrow! 🙂

Most people I talk to about this (which I almost never do anymore) shake their head and refuse to believe food can have such an impact. Well, try! After just a day, your body start reacting to the withdrawals and you will, I can promise, feel that changes are bobbling about.

When I am on the Detox I eat clean. Only veg, nuts, fruit, herbs, berries, chicken and fish. 2 meals a day is liquid and 1 is solid. Today I had my favorite clean dinner.
Chicken breast on baby salad sprinkled with apple. Over the salad I sprinkle a lovely fruity dressing. 1 tbs apple vinegar, 2 tbs good olive oil, salt and pepper.
It all comes together perfectly! 🙂

My breakfast juice is ginger, spinach, beetroot, oranges and carrots.

New years resolutions

I am very serious in making new years resolutions. I think this is so that I can concentrate on some important topics in my busy life, and put everything else aside.

1. Work better
I used to have a manager that told me in detail how to do my work. But now this has changed. My new manager leaves everything up to me… Which I am not using to the best of my knowledge or potential. So in 2013 I will use this and turn this headache of a job of mine into the perfect fit!
I am aware that this will require me to work some overtime and I will probably walk to bed with my head filled with work, but I will give it my best. As I am not at all happy as of now, it cannot get any worse!
And if I am not more happy with the situation come july, I will resign and find something else (in the opposite order).

2. Help my son at school and home
My son is as I am…. a bit lazy. He loves most activities when he is in the middle of it, but is really hard to get out  of his computer. My goal this next year is to be a bit harder on him (in a good way). I will force him to come out and do activities with us. I will make him watch movies about human relations other then blowing stuff up, and read the newspaper with him, explaining what really goes on behind the big headlines.
This one is not rocket science. This is what a mum is supposed to do, but as I also am lazy, sometimes I just give in. Let him live in his computer for just one more evening. And as computers and gaming is his biggest interest, I off course allow him to indulge in that world as well, just not all the spare time. And in the future a little less 🙂
Just to make sure that I don´t fall back to old ways, I will make it one evening a week. That day computers will be forbidden and fun with mum will be the new theme. As he is 14 I bet he will be thrilled 🙂

One other thing I´ve been meaning to teach him is how to talk to teachers. He is working really hard on his studying but is not getting the results on tests. I need to help him gain contact with his teachers so that he can seek guidance on how to succeed. Asking for help is some of the hardest things in everyday life, and getting started early must be a plus! This will also be done/started in 2013.

3. More happy
When I was younger I used to laugh all the time. I had loads of energy. Not to the extent of being annoying, but at least I had proper laughs many times a day. These days I am often down, my mood is really shit and I do not even know why…
This did not come crashing one day, but gradually gotten worse the last five-ten years. 3 years ago I had as a resolution to laugh more, and it worked. I saw comedies both at the cinema and theater. I got my colleagues and friends to tell jokes and I watched loads of standup on Youtube. This year I intend to do more of this. I am also getting myself a new dog. I have never owned a puppy (which I guess would make this resolution a lot easier), but have adopted to adult dogs. I want to adopt now too, If I can find one that fits our need.

4. Talking better care of myself and my son bodies.
I´ve just stopped drinking alcohol all together. I will do some more outdoor activities, and buy some equipment for exercising at home. 1 yoga mat and 2 cowbells within 1 of March.

I will make more food from scratch and grow my own in my garden. More juices and Smoothies for my son (does not care for fruit and veg at all, but do drink smoothies and juice). I will eat/drink more spirulina as this is good for my blood (I have a blood disease). I will try to make one dinner each week without meat.
I will find out why I react so violently when drinking small amounts of alcohol before ever trying it again. As my son exercises at school, I will set the goal to:
Once a week with my son and once a week alone. If I skip once, I will have to pay it back the next week.

5. I will get some advice on how to save up for buying property in UK.
In about 10 years I will by myself some property in the UK. In the beginning maybe just a loft or a forgotten stable somewhere, but in the end and long before retiring I will live part of the year in England and part of it here. I know where I am going, it is just good to get advice on where to put the money as I am saving for this first step of my big dream!
In a few years time I should also seek some advice in UK how to actually do the buying and loaning of money. Do I need the whole amount or not, or will I be able to get a loan, and if so, from here or there…

I also want to make a short list on how I want to be perceived, who do I want other people to see me as.
At work: Calm, thorough and not afraid to make decisions.
With family and friends: Centered, good listener and more forgiving

The green new year outfit

New year outfit

I just love this green! And the fact that the dress has long arms!
I think that a couple of Jimmy Choo ballerinas is a sensible thing to have with you if your waring high heels all night long. I picked nude and gold as a complementary color to the green as it does not interfere, but let the green play the leading lady!
And no off course I could never afford these lovely things!
And by the way, the glass contains cloudy apple juice! 😉

Quitting alcohol

I am finally quitting drinking alcohol. Not the best timing in the world since Christmas is coming up with all the fun parties, dinners and after work hangouts. But when is really a good time to do it?

As my body do not respond very well to alcohol, and this problem only seems to get bigger the older I get, I now throw in the towel. Its not like I drink very often, it is just that I get allergic like reactions to it.

I have already attended a few parties, not drinking. Testing out a bit if I am to declare it, or just make an excuse about loosing weight or driving a car. It is not a very popular thing to do this. Especially with some of my friends that have wine, beer or Whiskey as a hobby.

I still am not sure what to do. At least I do not want to lie directly, so if they digg, I will tell.

As a start I have set a goal to not drink for one year.
I will try to have a doctor investigate this further in hopes of finding a why this happens. But even if I find out. This one year is a promise to myself.
This is what I will gain:

1. No hangovers or allergic reactions
2. Less spent money
3. Less intake of calories, and will probably be very thin in no time 😉
4. Get up early in the mornings after
5. Less strain on my liver and body in general

What I will loose:
1. Socializing with colleagues and friends at the pub after work
2. Rewarding myself with the alcohol buzz after a busy week
3. Might loose an invite or two
4. The excitement of pairing a good wine with a meal

If you have any experiences on this or thoughts, please share!
